Amumba is a social mentoring platform that rewards students for doing the basic things they need to do to flourish in all aspects of their young lives. Any task - from homework, to reading, to household chores - can earn the students rewards that will motivate them to achieve.

A Mentee is a student. Mentees are responsible for creating accomplishments and reminder posts, as well as meeting challenges.

A Mentor can be anyone that cares about the success of a student (Mentee). They can be parents, teachers, or even close friends and relatives. Mentors are responsible for rewarding and challenging Mentees.

Approvers are the parents, teachers, and guardians of the Mentees. Approvers validate (or ‘Approve’) posts created by Mentees. Once the post is approved, Mentors can reward Mentees for their accomplishments. All Approvers are also Mentors, but not all Mentors are Approvers.

1. Sign up to become a Mentor.
2. Request Approver connection with your Mentee.
3. The connection request will be reviewed by Amumba staff.

Approvers give credibility to the posts they approve. In order to ensure the integrity of the system, we verify that each Approver is a parent or teacher of the Mentee and that s/he is qualified to approve a Mentee’s posts within a given category.

Each post created by a Mentee will be approved or disapproved by an Approver from the website’s validation tab.

Accomplishments are public posts that show all the tasks Mentees complete both at home and at school. When a Mentee completes a task, he will select a category for the accomplishment, post it, and choose an Approver to approve that post. New posts will stream to everyone in the Mentee’s social mentoring network. Mentors, Approvers, friends, and loved ones can like and comment on posts or even share them on Facebook and Twitter. If an Approver validates an accomplishment, Mentors can reward their Mentee with shillings.

Shillings are virtual currency. Shillings can unlock badges or they can be traded in the Amumba marketplace.

A badge is a visual depiction of a Mentee’s completed tasks and other achievements.

Reminders are created by Mentees to alert themselves to upcoming activities such as assignments, projects, homework, tests and quizzes.

Mentees will create reminders that coincide with the deadlines for their posts. For example, if a Mentee has a 'Complete my History Paper' post, she can create an associated reminder like 'Finish my Research Paper by Friday,' or 'Assignment Due in One Week.' These reminders will stream to the Mentee's Mentors. Mentors can then encourage their Mentees to complete their reminder tasks on time. If they do, then the Mentors can reward them with shillings. Mentors can also use reminders to create challenges for their Mentee.

Challenges are a way for Mentors to encourage Mentees to complete tasks that enhance or go above and beyond a Mentee’s other accomplishments.

1. Create a challenge for your Mentee.
2. Select a category and an Approver for the challenge.
3. Set the number of shillings the Mentee will receive if s/he completes the challenge on time.
4. Your Mentee will then complete your challenge and click, “Accomplished.”
5. The selected Approver will validate the challenge as “Approved” or “Disapproved.”
6. If the challenge was met, the Mentee will automatically be rewarded with the shillings allocated for that challenge. The post will also stream to the Mentee’s network.

A shout out is a post created by an Approver or Mentor that recognizes a Mentee's exceptional achievement. The post will stream to everyone in the Mentee's mentoring network.

Write ups are posts that document a Mentee’s poor behavior or poor performance in school. These posts can be created by Mentors or Approvers.

Mentees earn shillings when their Mentors reward them for their completed and approved accomplishments. Mentees also earn shillings when they successfully complete challenges set forth by their Mentors. You can even earn bonus shillings from other Mentors in your network.

The marketplace allows Mentors to buy shillings so that they can reward their Mentees. Mentors can also accept vouchers from their Mentees for shillings trades.

Each Mentor receives 25 shillings when they open an Amumba account. Mentors can also buy shillings in the Amumba marketplace.

The marketplace lets Mentees trade their shillings for redeemable vouchers, gift cards and other real world items.

Vouchers are rewards in the Amumba marketplace created especially for Mentees. Vouchers can be anything from a 'Stay Up Past Bedtime' Voucher, to a 'Video Game Pass,' or even a 'Suspend my Grounding' Voucher. Mentees select vouchers they would like to receive, and if they have enough shillings they can trade them with a Mentor to earn their voucher.

Each badge is tied to a specific category of accomplishment. Once you have successfully completed enough tasks within a category to unlock a badge, the badge counter will reset to zero.

Mentors use their shillings to reward Mentees.

When a Mentee trades shillings to redeem gift cards or other real world items, the Mentees will have the value of the item(s) debited from their total shillings bank. When a Mentee trades shillings to redeem a voucher from one of their Mentors, the total value of the voucher will be debited from their account. However, the Mentor will retain 85% of the shillings in their account and the remaining 15% will go to Amumba. So, for example, let’s say that a Mentee selects a ‘New Bike’ voucher at a cost of 1000 shillings. When the Mentee has saved enough shillings to trade with one of their Mentors, the Mentee will lose 1000 shillings, the Mentor will earn 850 shillings, and Amumba will earn 150 shillings.

Unfortunately, no. Shillings are nonrefundable.

To sign up as a teacher, his or her school must be participating. If a teacher's school is not registered with Amumba, either the principal or teacher can have their school join the Amumba platform. It's free for schools to use!

• Request an approver connection to your students
• Encourage your students to sign up and build their network of mentors (followers) by inviting parents, family, friends and anyone who cares about their success to support them and reward their achievements

• Your child[ren]'s school must be participating in Amumba in order to register as a parent
• Sign up as an approver
• Request an approver connection to your child[ren]

• Amumba is not for public use. Only participating schools and those personally invited by the student to follow and reward their efforts can join.
• Student younger than 12 can only sign up for Amumba under their parent's email address, which gives the parent direct access to their child[ren]'s account in order to monitor their activities.
• No private messages can be sent through Amumba. All student conversation is visible to their teachers and parents.

The class wallet feature allows partners (businesses, organizations, or private individuals) who want to give back to the community to set a certain amount of criteria through which the student's classroom can be rewarded. This is also an excellent opportunity to build your brand while creating a future for a child.
Each teacher has a class wallet which lets them accumulate auto shillings, provided their school has a sponsor partner (such as a business, organization, or various individuals) who is auto rewarding students and their class wallet for their achievements (challenges, accomplishments and shout outs) which are approved by the teacher. The class wallet is under the teacher's account and they can trade the shillings in the wallet in the Amumba marketplace for an Amumba check which is mailed to their school but designated to the teacher. The check can be used as money for supplies, field trips or anything that benefit the student or the school.

• Partners are businesses, organizations, and individuals who want to get involved with their community by adopting a local school.
• Pick a school - or schools - to mentor and receive a certain amount of reward points, or shillings, which can go either to a reward of the student's choice or be earmarked as credit for their college savings fund. With the Class Wallet feature, your company can also set a certain amount of criteria through which the student's classroom can be rewarded. This is also an excellent opportunity to build your brand while creating a future for a child.There is no limit on the number of local schools a partner can adopt.

It's free for schools to sign up! Only a principal or teacher may submit an application for their school to join Amumba. If a school's application is approved we will work with the school to sign up all their students and teachers. We will also help participating schools apply for sponsorships from partners, through which the school's students and teachers will experience the full benefit of Amumba.
